Understanding
and Engaging with the Construction Industry
Regional Supply Office - South West
The
Background
The South
West Office of the Regional Supply Network (RSO) was launched in
1995 by the D.T.I. as part of its drive to improve competitiveness
of UK-based organisations. The RSO seeks to: help purchasers find
the most competitive supply sources; help suppliers find new business
opportunities; encourage best practice in supply chain management;
highlight opportunities to improve the capabilities of local suppliers.
The South West RSO wished to have a higher representation in the
construction sector, particularly in Bristol. The major projects
in Bristol seemed an ideal opportunity for the RSO, and as they
did not have a member of staff with knowledge of construction considered
they would benefit from the input of an external consultant specialising
in the sector.
The objective of the project was to offer the RSO specialist support
and advice on the construction sector.
Services Reeves Consulting Ltd provided:
- Research on the structure, procurement strategies, and decision-makers
for the major projects in Bristol at Harbourside, Temple Quay
and Bristol International Airport (totaling £1/2 billion). Gathering
data from the public domain, RCL held information, and one-to-one
interviews with the key decision-makers for the projects
- A report detailing the findings of the research - Summary
of the projects, identification of the opportunities for the
RSO, projection of the potential for economic impact by the
RSO in the area of higher value added products and services,
and key recommendations
- Assistance and advice to the RSO on the implementation of
the key recommendations of the report, including organisation
of a Meet the construction buyer event
The project outcome:
- The RSO increased their knowledge of the construction industry;
and the industry in the Bristol area became more aware of the
RSO, its services and support for business
